Double post today! haha after two weeks of nothing! But again I wanted to get this out before it happened!!

Here is one for both Anna Wintour, and that terrible U.K. editor (ya know the one that picked on little Tavi?) ... Watch fashion shows LIVE from your computer on SHOWstudio.com!!! No worries about making it to the show or having to sit in the second row!

So far the there are only two, both hailing from New York, Alexander Wang (Feb. 13) and Rodarte (my personal favorite, live on Feb. 16!). But according to Knight ... this is the future... and I, for one, LOVE IT! Of course I am sure the majesty of the atmosphere is lost in the streaming video, but it should be none the less exciting to see the unvailing of a collection as it is happening!!

Between cramming for a multiude of exams and fighting my computer every step of the way I wanted to get a quick post up. I have absent from writting because of how busy I have become in the recent weeks but when I saw this I thought I should find the time to post it!

Apperently Anna Wintour asked designers in Milan's fashion week (taking place from the Febuary 24-March1) to fit their shows within in the 3 days she plans on being in town!!! The president of Milans fashion week, Mario Boselli, was quoted in the Telegraph U.K. saying "She's welcome in Milan but if she only comes for a fleeting visit, perhaps it would be better is she stayed at home." It looks like Dolce&Gabbana, Fendi, Prada, and Georgio Armani are all looking to move their shows up to earlier in the week for Anna but I have seen several different "new" dates... so we will have to just wait and see!

I know we are all thinking "what a bitch!" ... but come on... this is both funny and an awesome display of a powerful woman!!

Today J.D. Salinger, author of "Catcher in the Rye", died at age 91.

"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth."

We may not all recognize the name J.D. Salinger instantly, but we have all at least heard of the book. And weather you have read Catcher in the Rye or not (if you are one of those who haven't -> it reeeaaalllly is a great book and you should absolutly read it! its short so it goes quick!), we all know the book. Its a pop icon. Ofcourse the book perhaps is best known for its ties to shootings, most specifically that of John Lennons by Mark David Chapman, whom read a passage from the novel out loud during his sentencing and said it was the book that inspired him to preseve Lennons innocence by killing him. But it has also been referenced in seemingly every form of media and art possible. including music from Ace of Base, The Beastie Boys, The Ataris', Green Day, Guns and Roses, and The Jonas Brothers. Its been refurred to into dozens of t.v. shows spreading over every genre; from Family Guy to Law & Order:SVU to Dawsons Creek. And the same goes for movies (The Shinning <1980> - Tropic Thunder <2008>). But it doesn't stop there, it has even influanced fashion- inspiring designers like Vincent Flumiani (See A/W09 lookbook), you can even find Catcher in the Rye tee shirts at stores like Urban Outfitters. And the list goes on and on and on.....(including video games, other books, plays...) (!!!).

.... Well I just wanted to share with you what a huge influance a tiny book has had on our culture, that it really seeped in to every aspect of our culture, and today the man responsible for it died. Although I bet it will be impossible to get a copy of that book for a few weeks I recommend picking up a copy like I said its a really quick read...

Gilles et Dada has been getting a lot of attention from bloggers for its stop-you-in-your-tracks-drop-dead-gourgouse look books. But to me there is so much more to this brand then its great campaigns; Maybe its the Dada inspired philosophy, the clean and edgy styling, or its avent garde photography blog, but I just can't get enough! I'm deffintly looking forward to aw2010 collection that should be coming soon! And you can be sure I will share them with you as soon as they go up!

Thank you Camilla Sampson for this absolutely wonderful article! For everyone out there, (and I know at the moment I am only reaching very few people) I highly recommend reading it ... NOW! And because I couldn't better talk about this topic then she does her self I am not going to bother to try!--- However I do want to talk more about what you and I can do to keep our fashion conscience clean!

So, know your fabrics!

Obviously the best way to stay eco conscience when you go shopping is to check your tags for eco friendly material. But... what are ecofriendly materials? It is a common error to assume that all natural fibers must be ecofriendly, and all manmade fibers are not. In fact for a material to be consider environmentally friendly it must reach certain standards and become certified. Everything from how the fibers is grown, to how it’s processed, dyed, and finally the method of disposal of the garment is inspected and taken into consideration. (This is also why you may find environmentally friendly clothing maybe a little more expensive then its "environmentally deadly" counterpart, as these extra inspections and certifications can be pricey!)

So here is a quick list of some ecofriendly fabrics to keep in mind on your next shopping trip---

Alpaca: This is a natural, animal fiber that is stronger, lighter and more resilient then wool, as well as finer then cashmere!

Bamboo: I really can’t say enough about bamboo! It’s the fast growing plant, and the world's most sustainable resource! It can be grown without using any chemicals or pesticides and is 100% biodegradable. The material itself is stretchy, breathable, hypoallergenic, soft as cashmere, and antibacterial. (Great material for underwear!!)

Bamboo Charcoal: The same as bamboo with the added benefits of natural antiouder properties and anti bacteria and fungal properties, making it great for sports wear and shoes!

Eco-Spun (Eco-fi): "Learn to love Eco-Spun! It is a high-quality polyester fiber which is made from 100% certified recycled PET (soda/pop) bottles, that is capable of keeping about three billion plastic PET bottles out of the world’s landfills each year. It saves over half a million barrels of oil and eliminates 400,000 tons of harmful emissions which contribute to global warming, acid rain, smog, etc. In fact, the amount of petroleum saved annually by using post-consumer bottles instead of virgin materials is enough to supply power to a large city

Eco-Spun can be found in many textile products. This includes eco friendly clothing, blankets, wall coverings, carpets, auto interiors, and various home furnishings.

It takes 6-20 bottles to make a sweatshirt, depending upon the weight, size and blend of the garment. " (Thank you to www.wellcultivated.co.uk)

Hemp: Considered perhaps the most environmentally friendly fiber as it requires no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides to grow it and it replenishes the soil with nutrients. It also produces 3x more fiber per acre then cotton! The fabric is easily washable, light and airy, and not soft to touch. As hemp has many uses beyond fabrics check your beauty products for hemp too!

Ingeo: Ingeo literally means "ingredients from the earth" and is an amazing man-made natural-based synthetic fiber that comes from corn! And here is a message from the company ;)

Organic Cotton: In order for me to sell you on the idea of organic cotton, and I REALLY want to sell you on it, there is something you need to know about that regular cotton t-shirt you have on right now...it has a dirty secret, in fact it has FIVE! Five of the top nine cancer causing pesticides (cyanide, dicofol, naled, propargite and trifluralin) are used on many US cotton crops making it the second most pesticide laden crop in the world!! In the U.S it takes about one-third of a pound of chemicals to grow enough cotton for one T-shirt, ONE! Organic cotton however, is pesticide and herbicide free! It is also grown using organic farming methods, which not only produces a better fabric, but a better local environment.

Polartec "POP": A fleece like material made out of recycled pop bottles. Provides UV protection, it is water repentant, and both ouder and flame resistant

SeaCell: I have never gotten a chance to see or feel this fabric but I am dying too! It is a made out of Lyocell (100% wood pulp fiber) and 5% seaweed. It is said that the nutrients of the seaweed are absorbed by your body providing you with a scene of well-being (similar to those seaweed wraps at a spa perhaps? :) ). You can also get the fabric enriched with silver, which because of its antibacterial properties neutralizes ouders.

Organic Silk: Okay... we all know this one, and going into the details of how it is made is interesting, but for a lot of people a little gross. Anyway, the only questionable aspect of silk is the millions of silk worms that die in the production process of silk, which is also why I am not going to talk about the silk process, I don’t need a crazy debate over silk worm rights.

Soya: Made from tofu waste, this soy protein fiber is very soft and similar to cashmere.

Tencel: Is actually just the registered trademark name for Lyocell the 100% wood pulp fiber (mentioned above in Sea Cell). It is a man-made, artificial, cellulose fabric that is obtained by an organic solvent spinning process. It is considered a sub-category of rayon. It has minimal environmental impact and is an economical use of waste and energy.

Wool: We all know this one too. No animals are killed during the process and the RSPCA is responding to the ethical problems of "museling" the sheep. Wool is soft, strong, durable, as well as wrinkle, dirt, and fire resistant (it will not burn or melt, but it will smolder.)

Note: I understand you, I, we all will fall in love with a shirt, or a skirt, that doesn't fall under the ecofriendly category, but if you do buy non-ecofriendly garments go for those which can be washed in water under 30 degrees c, because it is not just the processing and manufacturing of the garments that have an environmental impact but also how and how often you wash it and dry it (at risk of sounding overly environmental to my American friends out there... as hard as it maybe... you don’t always need to use the dryer, hang drying your clothes, as inconvenient as it may be, is more ecofriendly.)
